This cute little eatery and coffee shop I slated in SoPo. I have stopped in a few times after yoga for a cup of tea or coffee. The place is absolutely adorable and the staff are really friendly. I haven't eaten here yet, but they have a nice looking breakfast and lunch menu. There are lots of tables to sit at and it is on a little downtown street near other shops. Great spot!

Absolutely delicious chicken salad sandwich on fresh bread. Great tea selection. Everything else I've had here is good too. People are nice and the newly-decorated space is a great place to work or meet someone.

The plan was to grab a coffee with a new business associate tonight in SoPo; we were going to meet at Cia, but it was closed (5PM), so we tried Snow Squall (closed on Mondays). I remembered Verbena and had not yet checked it out, so we went there (open until 6:30). It was 6PM and we were the only clientele, so it was regrettably stark. The server was very friendly, and she made a good soy chai latte. We sat on the leather chairs in front and weren't rushed out. I would definitely give Verbena a shot at breakfast or lunch; it would have big shoes to fill (my loyalty in South Portland belongs to 158 and Scratch), but I'll keep an open mind.

Cute place, great food, awesome baked goods and friendly people. Also vegetarian options, you can't go wrong! Check it out. By the way, they renovated in 2014 so complaints about the space no longer apply!! It's a cute space!

They are doing a nice job here! So glad to have re-discovered them after all the years many incarnations.

Melissa and her crew catered our wedding in August 2012, and they did an incredible job! The service was professional, on point and detail oriented. And the food - oh my goodness!! SO delicious. We had 180 guests and everyone we talked to just LOVED Verbena's food. I really enjoyed working with Melissa and I highly recommend stopping into Verbena for a tasty meal, or having them cater for your event!

My absolute FAVORITE place to eat in South Portland. Soups, salads, sandwiches, food by the pound, baked goods. Eat in or take out! And the espresso bar?! Such an added bonus! I'm a vegetarian and they have lots of options for me. Owner Melissa Coriaty is a phenomenal chef!

Picked up a quick lunch on the way out of Portland heading home. Very good sandwich and salads.

My favorite lunch spot in the area. Great coffee, rotating menu. Awesome.

The food is good, the coffee is mediocre, and the children's playspace is downright dingy and poorly located. I put my 12 month old down to play and instantly felt bad for her and had the urge to douse her in purell. Plus, there are no high chairs so she kind of HAS to hang out in that depressing corner. If she wants to come to me, she has to crawl over the long, grimy floor mats by the front door. Ick. I guess it's great that it exists, but I'd rather go to CIA across the street.

This is one of my favorite lunch places. Their sandwiches are great, and the relaxed atmosphere is perfect for meeting with a friend. Try the jerked steak and sweet potato sandwich. Fabulous!

Had an amazing soy and sweet potato sandwich last week. Always healthy, always really good.

We love Verbena. Great food, comfortable place. Family-friendly without sacrificing food quality or decor. Nice wines. The event I attended there was impeccably executed; the owner's attention to detail is impressive. She had even prepared healthy meals for the children! The absolute best thing about Verbena is the baked goods. This is not to detract from the delicious meals she serves, but honestly I have never tasted a better brownie.

I love Verbena for a plethora of reasons: 1/2 Sandwiches. YES. This is so great for me, since I'm a very snacky (and indecisive) eater but I always want to try their sandwich. This is a lower commitment than a full sandwich. Really great soda mashups - blueberry lemon seltzer water, etc. Good baked goods - cookies have always been divine. Friendly staff - the man behind the counter has always been so friendly to me! Great space - lots of space, couches for comfy seating, wifi, etc. I love that Knightville is coming alive again and I hope Verbena is around for a long time!
